Art hub hits Penrith!

Our Atelier Journey

Little Learning School Penrith is designing an art studio “LLS Atelier”. This will be a safe space for educators and children to immerse themselves in creative expression and learn wonderful art techniques along the way.

Benefits of art in early childhood:

  1. Art Promotes Creativity

The ability to be creative allows children to be successful in their well-being. According to the International Child Art Foundation, “Research indicates that a child who is exposed to the arts acquires a special ability to think creatively, be original, discover, innovate, and create intellectual property—key attributes for individual success and social prosperity in the twenty-first century.”

  1. Art Encourages Neural Connections

Art allows children to use their 5 senses. A child’s brain begins vital development when exposed to creative expression through mixing colours, drawing, using their imagination and seeing what they can do with materials in front of them.

  1. Art Builds Fine Motor Skills

Children are exposed to developing skills such as gripping and finger manipulation. The children’s dexterity and coordination will have opportunities to develop and flourish through the increase in art.

  1. Scribbling is a Precursor to Writing

Babies and toddlers begin by scribbling randomly, back and forth. The more they scribble, the more they are able to control the crayon and its movements across the paper. As children learn to control their scribbling, they make a wider variety of shapes, eventually making all the shapes necessary to write the letters of the alphabet—any alphabet.

  1. Art Develops Problem-solving Abilities

Through art children make choices and develop conclusions. This allows children to practice open-ended and process orientated skills. Children become comfortable with flexible thinking and develop confidence.

  1. Art Helps Kids Understand Themselves and Their World

Children need to process new techniques and new skills in a safe and reflective space. Art allows them to explore how their feeling and the impact they make contribute to the world around them.

  1. Art Helps Kids Connect

Art helps create a common ground for children. It allows children to engage with language and share ideas. It builds a path for relationships with their peers, their educators and their materials.

Art has many benefits which allows children to grow and develop and we home that with the implementation of our new space we will give children a foundation and a safe space to create.

Watch this space!

Thank you
